Start with the Decision You Need to Make
“Auto ABS data” covers several different products. Buying the wrong category creates an expensive workaround.
Market surveillance
You need prime and subprime benchmarks, delinquency, prepayment, loss severity, and recurring market context. Favor stable historical series with published aggregation rules.
Loan-level research
You need the actual ABS-EE fields, borrower and collateral attributes, monthly performance histories, issuer mapping, and cohort construction.
Ratings and deal monitoring
You need ratings opinions, transaction surveillance, trustee reporting, and deal-level commentary. Ratings platforms are a different product from a normalized loan tape.
Data engineering
You need bulk files, SQL or warehouse delivery, schema stability, lineage, and support for your internal models. A polished chart alone will not solve this job.
Auto ABS Data Options
This table summarizes public product descriptions. “Best fit” is LoanTape's interpretation, not a vendor endorsement.
| Provider or Resource | Publicly Described Offering | Access Pattern | Best Fit | Verify Directly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LoanTape | Normalized public SEC ABS-EE, Form 10-D, and remittance data with Auto ABS dashboards, research, and approved aggregate CSV export. | Self-serve browser access; Premium adds CSV export and analyst workflows. | Narrow U.S. public Auto ABS research and transparent, self-serve analysis. | Required issuer, field, and export coverage for your use case. |
| dv01 Auto Benchmarks | Prime and subprime public Auto ABS benchmarks built from EDGAR data, with delinquency, prepayment, loss severity, origination trends, and embedded analytics. | Demo-led platform access; its public page also describes SFTP and SQL delivery for custom analysis. | Enterprise teams that want benchmark data inside a broader capital-markets workflow. | Contract scope, issuer list, history, implementation support, and total cost. |
| KBRA U.S. Auto Loan ABS Index | Monthly prime and non-prime indices using rated securitized pools, balance-weighted at month end, with a six-month seasoning rule. | Public index materials and spreadsheet links; broader access depends on KBRA's current subscription terms. | Market benchmark and ratings-oriented surveillance. | Loan-level availability, redistribution rights, and subscription requirements. |
| S&P Global Auto Loan ABS Tracker | Recurring prime and subprime performance commentary and tracker tables from a ratings perspective. | Published research pages; deeper products and permissions vary by subscription. | Ratings context, transaction surveillance, and market commentary. | Data export rights, history, loan-level depth, and licensed product access. |
| SEC-API ABS-EE Dataset | Accession-level Form ABS-EE archive bundling metadata, cover documents, EX-102 asset data files, and available EX-103 documents. | Dataset APIs and downloadable monthly or full archives. | Engineering teams that want structured filing retrieval and will build their own Auto ABS normalization. | Auto-only filtering, entity resolution, field normalization, and ongoing processing cost. |
| SEC EDGAR | The authoritative public filing source for Form ABS-EE, EX-102 asset files, Form 10-D, and related disclosure documents. | Public filing search, archives, and SEC interfaces. | Source verification and teams prepared to own collection, parsing, validation, and maintenance. | Your ability to resolve issuers and trusts, handle amendments, and preserve fair-access controls. |
Vendor capabilities and commercial terms change. Confirm current coverage and delivery with each provider before making a purchase decision.
Is LoanTape a dv01 Alternative?
For some Auto ABS research workflows, yes. As a full enterprise data-infrastructure replacement, no.
Where LoanTape overlaps
- Public U.S. Auto ABS loan-level and benchmark analysis
- Prime and subprime performance comparisons
- Issuer, vintage, FICO, transition, and geographic views
- Normalized SEC filing data and recurring research
- Browser-first access with published self-serve pricing
Where the products differ
- dv01 publicly positions a wider capital-markets and enterprise data workflow
- dv01 describes SFTP and SQL delivery for standardized data
- LoanTape is intentionally narrower: public SEC Auto ABS and SBA analytics
- Enterprise integrations and private-data requirements should be evaluated directly
- A feature checklist cannot replace a trial using your own research question
Auto ABS Platform Evaluation Checklist
Ask every provider the same questions. The comparison gets much easier.
- Source coverage: Which forms, issuers, shelves, trusts, loans, and leases are included?
- Data grain: Can you reach loan-level performance, or only pool and benchmark aggregates?
- History: What is the earliest complete month, and how are amendments and restatements handled?
- Freshness: Is “monthly” measured from the filing date, payment date, or a complete issuer panel?
- Normalization: Are official SEC fields preserved, and can you audit derived aliases back to source?
- Methodology: Are denominators, weighting, segmentation, seasoning, and trust-call rules documented?
- Delivery: Browser, CSV, API, SFTP, SQL, or warehouse share? Which methods are included in your tier?
- Commercial fit: Published pricing or custom quote, onboarding time, support, usage limits, and redistribution rights?
Run One Real Trial Before You Buy
